Back matter — on privacy
The privacy policy
- last revised 17 July 2026
insinq.ink is a small, independent site. It collects the minimum it needs to let you read, comment, and be written to — and nothing here is ever sold. This page sets out exactly what is kept, why, and how to have it removed.
What we collect
- Account details — username, email address, and a hashed password when you register.
- Your contributions — comments, reviews, bookmarks, likes, and notes you make while signed in.
- Correspondence — your email address if you join the newsletter or write via the contact page.
- Technical basics — ordinary server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) kept briefly for security and to keep the site running.
We do not collect more than this, and we do not run third-party advertising or tracking networks.
How it is used
- To operate your account and the reading-room features.
- To send the newsletter, if and only if you asked for it — every issue carries an unsubscribe link.
- To respond when you write to us.
- To keep the site secure and diagnose faults.
Nothing is used to profile you, and your reading habits are not shared with anyone.
Cookies
The site uses a small number of first-party cookies: one to keep you signed in, and one to remember your theme preference (paper or night). There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site trackers.
Payments
Donations and payments for services are handled by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers; we keep only a record of the transaction (amount, date, and the email attached to it) for bookkeeping. Stripe’s own privacy policy governs their processing.
Who can see it
Your public contributions (comments, reviews) are visible to other readers under your username. Everything else is private. We share data only with the services that make the site work — our hosting provider, Stripe for payments, and our email delivery service for the newsletter — and never sell or rent it to anyone.
Retention & your rights
Account data is kept while your account exists. You can update your details from your dashboard, and you may ask for a copy of your data or for your account and contributions to be deleted at any time by writing to us. Server logs are rotated and discarded on a short cycle.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has registered, contact us and the account will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the dateline above will say so, and material changes will be flagged on the site. Continuing to use insinq.ink after a change means you accept the revised policy.
